Although Bartin city got its own university 12 years ago, the city's university history dates back to the 1990s. Bartın Faculty of Forestry, which was established under the Zonguldak Karaelmas University with the law number 3837 dated 11.07.1992, became the first faculty established in Bartın. Bartın Faculty of Forestry, established in Ağdacı Campus, started its education life by taking its first students in the 93-94 academic year. With the start of education of Bartın Faculty of Forestry, 3 more academic units were included in the field of higher education in Bartın. These are Bartın Vocational School, Health Services Vocational School, and Physical Education and Sports School.
In 2008, when city universities started to be established throughout the country, Bartın city gained its own university. Bartın University, which was established with the law number 5765 dated May 22, 2008, received its first students with 4 academic units separated from Zonguldak Karaelmas University, as well as the newly established Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Social Sciences Institute and Institute of Science. Bartın University, which started to train students who aim to have a say in the future with 3 faculties, 2 institutes, 2 vocational schools, and a college in total, continues its development in order to meet the needs of our country.
