Food inspiration comes from France, Italy, and Turkey but one can also see Anglo-Saxon influences due to the occupation of the island. Halloumi, or Hellim as it is called in Turkish, is just one of the internationally known delicacies originating from Cyprus. This national cheese is served fresh, fried, or grilled as an appetizer, aged halloumi is grated over pasta dishes. Many dishes have aromas of cumin and coriander. The Cypriot wine industry ranks 37th in the world and is a significant contributor to the Cypriot economy. The country is most known for its Commandaria dessert wine. But no doubt, once you’ve spent some time in Cyprus, you’ll learn to love the outdoors, just like the locals do.

The official languages in Cyprus are Turkish and Greek, but English is also widely spoken. English is less popular than Greek, but it is widely used in many areas, especially in tourism and culture, and most people in the country, are familiar with English. In fact, English is the language of instruction in many of the higher education institutes in Cyprus, especially in the private sector.

For those of you who are interested to learn a new language, there are universities that aim at teaching Greek to non-native speakers, nationals, and foreigners, as well as to those who wish to perfect their knowledge of Greek. These lessons are offered to all students from the beginner level.
