Celebrating Romania is an important part of the culture. From Unification Day to National Day, Romanians love nothing more than celebrating their country and their heritage. But Romania is also a naturally beautiful place, from the beaches in the south-east, to the central valleys, to the mountains that crisscross the country.
In addition to its natural beauty, Romania is also home to one of the most infamous buildings of all time: Castle Dracula. Located in Transylvania, the castle served as the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s classic novel. It now attracts millions of visitors every year.
Since democracy was restored in the 1990s, Romania has transformed its economy. It’s now among the strongest in Eastern Europe. There are low levels of unemployment and good jobs and salaries, particularly in Bucharest and other major cities. That being said, Romania is still a developing country, but one that is receiving a lot of investment. This means that there are plenty of opportunities for internships and even part-time jobs while you study. Adding to this is that Romania is fast becoming a tech hub, with Bucharest as its financial center.
Romania is also fairly safe, especially in the cities. There are relatively low levels of violent crime. Pickpocketing can be a problem on public transport, though. So try to keep an eye out when you’re going about the city. There’s also no recent history of terrorism in Romania, adding to the country’s relatively safe reputation.
