Study in Brazil: Application Process

Brazil’s national application portal is called SISU. The very first thing you’ll need to do is register on the SISU website. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be issued an ENEM registration number. This number allows both you and the schools that you’re applying to to track your application. 

Schools will only glance at your application to see whether or not you meet the requirements for your chosen course(s). To prove that you are qualified, you’ll need to submit the following documents:

• A copy of the ID page of your passport to prove your nationality and identity
• Academic transcripts
• A letter of motivation
• One or two letters of recommendation
• Celpe-Bras test results*

*If you want to study in Portuguese but it’s not your first language, then you’ll need to take the Celpe-Bras proficiency test. It works like the TOEFL for English. You can take it twice a year in April and October. There are test centers both in Brazil and elsewhere in the world. You’ll also likely need to take this test if you’re of Brazilian descent but don’t hold citizenship. 

Schools in Brazil don’t have a standard grading system. Expect everything from percentages (like in the UK) to letters (like in American high schools). 

Once you’ve been admitted to a program, you can begin preparing for your journey to Brazil.
