Study in Luxembourg: Application Process
Unlike most other countries in Western Europe, Luxembourg doesn’t have a central application portal. Instead, you’ll need to apply to individual courses (up to a maximum of three) at individual schools.
Unlike most other countries in Western Europe, Luxembourg doesn’t have a central application portal. Instead, you’ll need to apply to individual courses (up to a maximum of three) at individual schools.
Requirements vary from school to school and program to program, but this is generally what you’ll need to present when applying to study in Luxembourg:
- Your high school grade transcripts
- Letter of motivation
- Letter or two of recommendation
- Copy of your passport
- Language test results scores
- It’s easy to find widely-accepted tests for English, French and German, but it is possible to take a Luxembourgish test over the internet. Find out more here.
For Master’s and PhD studies, you’ll also need to provide transcripts from your previous degree(s) as well as your academic and professional CVs.
Apply in plenty of time as the schools will need time to let you know if you need to submit anything extra. Sometimes, schools ask for physical copies of documents, so factor in additional postage time.
Documents will need to be presented in the language in which you plan on studying. You’ll need to present your original documents with any notarized translations that you might need.
This process seems a lot less bureaucratic than in other countries because it is. In Luxembourg, the letter of motivation is extremely important and is normally the main factor in any admission decisions.
