Study in Denmark: Tuition Fees & Scholarships
Interested in studying abroad in Denmark? Our Study in Denmark guide will outline tuition fees and scholarships information, as well as information about the Danish higher education system.
Tuition Fees - Bachelor’s and Master’s programs
If you are a student from the EU/EEA or Switzerland, you do not have to pay tuition fees - higher education in Denmark is free for you. Students participating in an exchange program can also study for free in Denmark.
You do not pay tuition fees in Denmark if you have a permanent residence permit (despite your country of origin), or if you have a parent who holds a residence permit.
For all other students, fees can range from EUR 6,000 to 16,000 per year depending on the institution and the program of study.
Less expensive degrees, such as social sciences, start from about EUR 6,000 per year, while specialist degrees like medicine can cost up to EUR 35,000 per year. The average cost of a degree in Denmark is around EUR 12,000 to 15,000 per year.
Tuition Fees - PhD programs
Many Danish PhD programs are developed as partnerships between universities and private companies, research institutions and business enterprises and are therefore fully funded. Self-financed PhD programs usually cost between EUR 10,000 and 16,000 per year.

Several national and European programs offer scholarships for international students who wish to study in Denmark, as in the case of the following:
Nordplus
If you are enrolled at a university in a Nordic or Baltic country, Nordplus offers the opportunity to undertake a part of your studies in another Nordic or Baltic country.
Erasmus/Erasmus Mundus
The Erasmus program allows EU/EEA students to study abroad as part of their home country degree for between 2 and 12 months.
The Eramus Mundus (Joint Master Degree) is open to both EU/EEA and non-EU/EAA students – the scheme offers Master’s students the chance to study courses offered jointly by a Danish university and a partner European university. Students should contact individual Erasmus Mundus courses to see if they are eligible.
Scholarships for non-EU/EAA students
There are several scholarships available for non-EU/EEA students provided by the Danish government under the Cultural Agreements. These are aimed at highly qualified students and young researchers wishing to immerse themselves in fields of study associated with Denmark.
Non-EU/EEA students can also apply for a limited number of scholarships provided by the government to Danish universities to fund highly qualified full-degree students from non-EU/EEA countries.
