Introduction

Founded in 2014, the School of Humanities and Social Science (hereinafter referred to as HSS) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is an exceptional and collaborative community of faculty, students, and alumni dedicated to improving lives and expanding opportunities through the comprehensive study and effective practice of humanities and social science. HSS now offers three bachelor programmes, seven master programmes, and three MPhil-PhD programmes. The bachelor programmes include Translation, Applied Psychology, and English Studies.

The master's programmes include Translation and Interpreting Studies, Simultaneous Interpreting, Global Studies, Applied Psychology, Urban Studies, Public Policy, Chinese Language and Literature. The MPhil-PhD programmes include Global Studies, Translation Studies, and Applied Psychology. With over 170 full-time faculty members, HSS has a strong team consisting of distinguished senior scholars and a large number of young academic leaders.

Admissions

All applicants must meet the following conditions

  • Must have graduated from a full-time undergraduate program recognized by the Ministry of Education and
  • A grade point average of B or above; or
  • GPA reaches 3.0 or above (out of 4); for schools that calculate grades based on a hundred-point system, a score of 80% or above (inclusive) is required; or
  • Obtain a bachelor's degree with second-class honours or above; or
  • Reach the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in relevant majors and
  • Obtain a professional qualification equivalent to an honours degree; or
  • Obtain relevant professional qualification certificates;
  • Complete any of the following English language proficiency tests:
  • TOEFL (internet-based test score of no less than 79); or
  • IELTS (Academic) (not less than 6.5); or
  • Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) (no less than 21 points in Chinese); or

Hold a degree from a university in the following countries:

  • Countries whose official language is English (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, etc.).

Note: Native English speakers are exempt from the above English language proficiency requirements.

*The final right of interpretation belongs to the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Registry fee

The application fee is RMB 300 (once paid, there is no refund).

Applicants are required to submit the following materials through an online application

  1. The official transcripts of a college or university degree must be stamped by the Academic Affairs Office or the college, and they must list all subjects taken and test scores. If the score sheet does not indicate average marks or grades, proof of average marks is required.
  2. Copies of Bachelor and Master Degree Certificates.
  3. Original test scores prove that the applicant meets the English proficiency requirements of the course.
  4. Two confidential letters of recommendation (provide the recommender’s email address on the online application page).
  5. Curriculum Vitae (CV) and personal statement.
  6. The copies of passport.
  7. Representative personal works (no more than three).

If necessary, applicants may be asked to submit supplementary information or supporting documents.
