The School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Crete is a unique department within Greece, combining the cutting-edge aspects of the discipline of chemical engineering with leading research and teaching in the environmental sciences and technology.
The mission of the School is to offer modern courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advance multi-disciplinary research on environmental topics, and provide environmental services to society and to the scientific community. It is the top department for environmental studies in Greece based on the research output of faculty members. It hosts a range of research teams led by corresponding faculty members, covering a range of research areas including air, soil, and water pollution; sustainable energy and climate change; natural disasters; urban environments; hydrology and hydraulics; waste management; environmental policy, amongst others.
The School’s dynamic research activity is reflected by the fact that its members have coordinated and participated in numerous national and EU research programs over the years. The fact that one of the top priorities of the Technical University of Crete is to become a “Green University” demonstrates how central the position of the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering is within the University.
