Introduction

Saxion University of Applied Sciences welcomes international students to the Netherlands

Saxion University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest institutions of higher education in the Netherlands, with close to 27,000 students (and still growing!).

Saxion University has a rich history - its roots can be traced back to 1875. A merger of two educational institutions, the Hogeschool Enschede and Hogeschool IJselland, paved the way for Saxion University in its present form in 1998.

This merger enabled Saxion to build further on its strong position in Dutch higher education and since then Saxion University has come to be recognised as an important centre of expertise at a regional, national and international level.

Campuses

Location

Saxion University of Applied Sciences has three campuses in the East of the Netherlands - one campus in each of the three Dutch cities of Deventer, Enschede and Apeldoorn. Thanks to the important contribution of agriculture to the local economy, this region is renowned for its beautiful countryside and fairly relaxed pace of life. However, all four Saxion locations have good public transport facilities, meaning that the hustle and bustle of the major cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague is no more than 1½ hours away.

Student lifestyle

At Saxion we have many modern facilities and services to help you with your study. Next to our Connect programme, which is a career development programme directly after graduation, we also have a Top Talent Programme and Service point for you. On our campuses we also have many labs and a libraby available for you.

Labs

At Saxion we have various labs which you can use. From clothes that check your heartbeat to medical robots, one surprise after another awaits you in Saxion's labs and practical training rooms. Here we offer practical-oriented teaching and conduct research, often in collaboration with other local parties, companies, and other institutions. Find out what our labs can do for you.

Librabry

At Saxion we value written and digital knowledge. This all comes together in our library on campus.

Saxion Library has three branches: in Enschede, Deventer and Apeldoorn. Every registered student is a member of the library and can borrow material with a valid student card.

Accommodation

Once you have decided to study abroad, there are many things you need to arrange and prepare. Finding a place to live is one of the most important things that needs to be arranged before your arrival. Since it is quite difficult to find suitable housing by yourself, Saxion arranges accommodation for all of our first year international students from outside EU/EEA in Deventer and Enschede. The rooms are all single rooms and furnished with basic facilities like bed, desk, chair and cupboard. All accommodations have an internet connection. The bathroom, toilet and kitchen need to be shared with other international Saxion students, max. 7 students share common facilities.

In the region where Saxion is located housing is more affordable then in some other parts of the country and it is easier to find accommodation as well. We encourage European students to find their own accommodation, but in case you would like to have everything arranged in time and want to immerse yourself in international student life, we offer the possibility to reserve a room in one of our international student houses.
