The cost of living in Greece, compared to many other European countries, is quite low. In terms of student accommodation, not every institution offers student accommodation dormitories. Those that do can have a lot of requirements that you’ll need to meet to get housing.
Most student dormitories are found in the largest Greek student cities, like Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, Larisa, or Heraklion. Students who study elsewhere in Greece tend to find their own accommodation. This can be more challenging if you don’t speak the language, but nothing is impossible!

Take into account that in the largest cities, a one bedroom apartment in the city center will cost you around €250-450, and outside of the city center around €200-350. In smaller cities, the cost of living is even cheaper, including the rent for student apartments. Utilities can vary between €50-100 Euros per month for gas, electricity, and heating, while an internet connection for students can cost around €25 per month.
In the largest cities, monthly transportation cards for buses and the metro are available and are in fact quite cheap at around €30 per month. If you're a student, you can even pay less. with student discounts! So, don’t forget to show your student ID when you buy your travel card.
